Your New York Wedding OfficiantHumanist Celebrant (officiant) Beth K. Lamont

Humanist Chaplains

Available to you are several Humanist Celebrants, also known as Humanist Chaplains or Humanist Ministers, — Beth (pictured at right), Eileen, and Mary — who are authorized by The Humanist Society (THS), an adjunct to the American Humanist Association (AHA). Several unaffiliated Officiants can be available, as well. The Senior Humanist Celebrant, Beth, has performed thousands of weddings. All are legally licensed to operate anywhere in the State of New York, including the five boroughs of New York City (NYC) which, of course, includes Manhattan (New York, NY). Happily, we are guaranteed to be "weather-proof!" Any time of day or night is okay with us: sunrise or Times Square at midnight!

Our Role as Wedding Officiants

We conduct traditional, contemporary, or multicultural ceremonies, and we work with you to design your wedding ceremony to be as individual and personal as you wish, with a focus on simplicity and meaning. We've been doing this since 1996.

We are not interfaith ministers, but we are sensitive to tradition, and are willing to include ceremonies which are important to you. We also encourage you to include thoughts, readings, and statements which reflect your own philosophy and beliefs, with an emphasis on mutual support, equality, and personal commitment. Once you tell us more about yourselves, and your wishes, we will make suggestions and start helping you to plan the format and style that will be most pleasing to you.

Legal Marriage

The signing of your Marriage License, and filing the finished document with the City Clerk's Office to be recorded, is what actually constitutes the legal status of your marriage. Please be assured of the legality of your marriage. You will not be requested or required to make a fee deposit for your ceremony.

Same Sex Marriages Gay friendly.

On June 24 thru 26, 2011, the Empire State Building in Midtown Manhattan displayed Rainbow Colors in honor of New York City Pride Week.Wedding Your Way New York is very LGBT-friendly and proudly conducts same-sex wedding ceremonies.

The New York State Marriage Equality Act was signed into law on June 24, 2011 and became effective state-wide on July 24, 2011.

This Act permits same-sex couples to get married anywhere in the State of New York just like opposite-sex couples, with the same rights, responsibilities, and privileges under both New York State and New York City law, and as with any other wedding couple, there is no residency requirement and there are no special procedures to follow. Simply apply for and obtain your marriage license, wait 24 hours, and you then have 60 days (or 180 days for active military personnel only) in which to get married. These same rules apply to New York State residents, visitors to the state of New York from other states, and visitors from outside of the U.S.

Elopements

If you're planning an elopement, please contact us, as we are usually available on very short notice and would be delighted to conduct your wedding ceremony — and there's no extra charge for performing a ceremony at the last minute!

Non-legal Ceremonies

You might wish to have a special non-legal/ceremonial wedding ceremony for the benefit of family and friends who were, or will be, unable to attend your legal wedding.

Contact Us

To contact us, please fill-out and submit our Wedding Officiant Inquiry Form.

Follow-Up

After an initial contact, e-mail and telephone is usually sufficient to discuss all relevant details, but perhaps you'd prefer to meet in person to discuss your plans, and the wording of your ceremony, and maybe even to get to know us a bit. We can certainly make an appointment to get together for that purpose. For a meeting held in Manhattan, there's no extra charge for this.

We are very portable and can meet most any time or place that would be helpful to you. If you are already a New Yorker and are employed in the City, we would be ever so pleased to meet with you both after work, if weekdays would be best for you. Anytime or place that's good for you, is OK for us.

You can do this even if you did not make first contact with us through WeddingWire, and you will be allowed to create a screen name to protect your privacy if you wish. Thank you!

A sampling of some of the many unsolicited testimonials that we've received from couples we've married…

"Just a quick e-mail to say thanks so much again for Sunday, it was exactly what we wanted and just perfect. I have attached a picture for you of us as a thank you. All the best,"
—Louise and Chris, March 2011

"I sincerely apologize for being so belated in sending this note. But I wanted to say thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for officiating our wedding! From the moment you offered to do it back when we first met last fall—before I even knew when we would be getting married—I knew that you would be the perfect person for the job, and you were indeed. You brought such a genuine sensitivity and consciousness to the ceremony that would be hard to find elsewhere. And that's not just Dennis's and my opinion - everyone at the wedding commented on how wonderful you were! We'll remember your words for the rest of our lives and use them as a guide to a healthy and loving marriage. Thank you again, for helping to bring even more significance to our wedding day. With love,"
—Jennie and Dennis, July 2010

"Thank you so much for helping us making a PERFECT WEDDING! Everything was really great and it's going to be a memory for life for me and Annica. It was fantastic to have the wedding at the Top of the Rock, with that great view of the city especially with the perfect summer weather that we were blessed with. When you at the end of the ceremony said "World, I present to you, Anders and Annica, Husband and Wife.", we felt that it in that moment, with most of New York around us as a panorama view, those words were exactly right and it was as we actually were presented for the whole world! We also want to send our thanks to your son and his wife. Since we couldn't get hold of any witnesses by ourselves, we are really grateful that they took time for us. And, of course, also that they helped us to make this day unforgettable by taking photos and video of the occasion. Please send our thanks to them! After we said goodbye me and Annica went down to the rink outside of Rockefeller Center for a nice drink. The waiter actually treated us with champagne when he realized that we just got married! And later that evening we went to the "Oyster Bar" at Grand Central Terminal, and had a really nice wedding dinner with Lemon Sole and some more champagne. All in all a perfect day that we won't forget!"
—Anders and Annica (from Sweden), July 2010

"I can't even begin to tell you what a joy and a treat it was to have met you on Saturday, and to have you preside over our wedding. You are marvelous and delightful, and the entire experience was brightened by your being there. I know I'm speaking for my brand new wife when I say that too. Thank you again for the absolutely lovely job you did, and for the absolutely lovely person you are. We are blessed to have spent the time with you, and we'd do it again the exact same way every day if we could. I am once again certain that the Mrs. would agree with me. All our best,"
—Matt and Allison, July 2010

"Craig and I received our marriage certificate and we just wanted to thank you for the most amazing wedding day. It could not have been any better. What you said during the ceremony was just what we wanted and perfect for us. Thank you for making our day so special, we are so happy. I have attached a snap of us all. We cannot wait to come back on holiday to New York, we loved it so much! Thank you so much. With love,"
—Laura and Craig (from the U.K.), April 2010

"Thank you for all your help and excellent service at our wedding last week! I'm so pleased and we all thought it was very well performed. You seem such a kind and sweet person. I hope everything works out fine with the paperwork now. I will send you another mail when I've managed to get the photos into this computer. I just wanted to tell you how grateful and happy I am right now. So thanks again. You did a great job. It was a pleasure to meet you. A big hug from us both!"
—Elli and Markus (from Sweden), November 2009

"We're writing to thank you for performing our wedding ceremony. We were delighted with how the ceremony went, and really appreciate your willingness to work with us to make it our own, and to learn a few words in different languages (your pronunciation was great!). Thank you also for travelling in such terrible weather! I'm sending a couple of pictures from the night. Hope you enjoy them."
—Alexandra and David, January 2009

"I just wanted to send a note of special thanks for recommending her to us for our ceremony. She married us on November 1, and was such a lovely part of our wedding celebration! We were thrilled with how she performed our ceremony - with such sincerity and loving care. She is an amazing person who we are happy to know. Both our families, too, loved meeting her and speaking with her. I think she and my mom are kindred spirits! Thank you again!"
—Laurie and Michael, November 2008

"We arrived home safely and spent most of our last day at Bow Bridge enjoying the memories and sunshine. We both want to thank you for the most magical moment of our lives, it could not have been more perfect. Many, many thanks from the bottom of our hearts. We will never forget you and you hold a special place in our memories and our future. It is so lovely to come home and share the memories with our family who we missed terribly. Thank you again and all the very best to you and your family for the future."
—Danielle and Floyd (from Belgium), November 2008

"We are back in Boston and still aglow from our so very special and amazing wedding ceremony. We can't thank you enough for your incredible and heartfelt contribution in both your beautiful written passages and your delightful and soothing energy."
—Mim and Pratt, September 2008

"We would like to thank you again for coming and sharing that day with us. Both of us loved the reading and the vows."
—Urszula and Lukasz, August 2008

"I can't thank you enough for bringing your endless love and elegance to our wedding. We truly feel delighted and full of wonder at the simple beauty of the ceremony and will always remember how poignant and magical the moments we shared our vows together were."
—Samantha and William, October 2007

"I just wanted to e-mail to say 'hello' and another big 'thank you' for helping make our Wedding Day so special! We enjoyed every minute and everyone who attended agreed the ceremony was perfect!"
—James and Natalie, October 2007
